Dark Heart, 2014 Adelaide Biennial
Art Gallery of South Australia
1 March - 11 May 2014
Someone died trying to have a life like mine was produced for the 2014 Adelaide Biennial ‘Dark Heart’. The large sculptural installation referenced an event on a small Australian territory off the coast of Western Australia, the Cocos Islands. In May of 2013, 28 life jackets washed ashore, presumed to have come from an unsuccessful attempt by asylum seekers to reach Australian soil. Recreated in marble, the jackets confront the tragic reality of those seeking asylum in Australia. The work was acquired by AGSA in 2014.
